Launched in 2025, our house system was wholly designed by students, for students, to deepen belonging and connection. Each house is a tribe within the wider school community.
Our three houses, named in collaboration with the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation, are:
Students and teachers worked together to build house culture and traditions. Our talented art students designed house crests in an art competition. We created competitions celebrating student success in a wide range of fields: sports (swimming and athletics carnivals, footy and futsal, volleyball), cultural events (karaoke, public speaking, speed puzzling, art competition), and other competitions (Mario Kart, the Great Footscray Bake-Off, knitting). Even positive behaviours in classrooms attracted house points.
Our house system was suggested, designed and implemented by the student body through the Student Leadership Collective. Through friendly competition and teamwork, it has increased connection among cohorts, between year levels, and between students and teacher house leaders.
Additionally, the house system provides a vital new avenue for student leadership through our house captains at all three campuses. Footscray High School is continuing to seek student feedback and ideas to improve our house competition in years to come.
Go ngamayi, wurru-wurru, yaluk!
