Footscray High School is part of The Footscray Learning Precinct. The Precinct will champion excellence in learning and teaching in Melbourne's inner west at all stages of education. The precinct will build on the richness and diversity of the community and will provide opportunities for learning in a whole new way.
We have created a new multi-campus secondary school for the Footscray Learning Precinct, with a dedicated senior school campus for Years 10-12 and two junior campuses for students in Years 7 – 9. This Model will be fully operational by 2022.
Building on what’s working well across the precinct, principals and teachers have collaborated with recognised experts to create and deliver a ‘shared learning framework’. While working to build on the success of the past, the precinct will provide greater opportunities for teacher collaboration and professional development.
There are a number of key things that have guided the learning and teaching in your child’s school. They include:
The community valued Education, Community and Culture. As a result, Our Pillars and Identity are founded on the following themes:
Education – We are educators. We are proud to be part of something bigger. Our school is an inclusive community built upon values of unity, respect, creativity and endeavour. We believe in working hard and working together in a positive environment, where each individual is engaged and empowered to discover purpose and develop skills for life.
Urban Landscape – We are proud of Footscray. The area around Footscray was originally home to the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and the Bunurong peoples of the Kulin Nation for more than 40,000 years. Maribyrnong is an anglicised version of the Aboriginal term ‘Mirring-gnay-bir-nong’, which translates as ‘I can hear a ringtail possum’. Where the Maribyrnong and Yarra Rivers join was an especially important place as it symbolised the joining of groups who would travel along the river. Many sacred sites have been identified. Cultural Diversity – We celebrate all cultures. Once a centre for Greek, Italian and former Yugoslavian migrants, it later became a hub for Vietnamese and East African immigrants in Melbourne. It has recently begun to undergo rapid development and gentrification.
With eyes cast forward, this is three schools coming together to form confident, capable and creative individuals. We have drawn from pride of place. Footscray in its eclectic glory remains the hero, therefore the brand is formed around a strong F logomark.
Propelling forward this is a brand that is future ready. The core mark remains simple, clean and almost classic while secondary language feels energised and proudly unlike anything within the secondary education sector. Colours showcase our diverse community while pattern making is derivative from the brand mark – directional and dynamic. The result is a brand that feels aligned with the younger urban student demographic while can still appear considered and sophisticated.
