It’s time to start the Year 9 conversation.

It’s time to start the Year 9 conversation. Over the next few years, your child will begin making important choices about subjects, interests and future pathways, and it can help to start these conversations early. RMIT, the University of Melbourne, and myfuture all offer resources to support families as you explore possibilities together.

Year 9 students are encouraged to complete their Career Action Plan. This reflection task helps students connect what they experienced at Kinnear with future study, training and career options. Families can also explore the free My Career Profile on myfuture, which includes nine activities that build a profile based on interests, skills and values and suggest possible occupations to investigate.

Upcoming holiday opportunities include RMIT’s Tech and Trades Experience Day on Wednesday, 8 July 2026 and the University of Melbourne’s A Day at Melbourne for Years 9 and 10 on Friday, 10 July 2026. Both events give students a chance to experience campus life, learn about pathways and speak with staff and students.

The best career conversations are ongoing, low-pressure and curious. Ask what energises your teen, what they enjoy, and what kind of future they can imagine.
