At Footscray High School, our library is more than a place to borrow books — it’s the heart of our school community and a driving force behind our students’ outstanding reading outcomes.
Across our three campuses — Barkly, Pilgrim and Kinnear — each library offers a welcoming space where students are encouraged to read, explore and grow. Our extensive print and digital collections span fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, eBooks and audiobooks, carefully curated to suit every reading level and interest. Books can be borrowed across campuses through our inter-library loan service, and our 24/7 online catalogue means students can access resources, reserve titles and connect to research databases from anywhere, at any time.
Our commitment to fostering a genuine love of reading is reflected in the strong reading data we see across the school. By organising fiction by genre for easy browsing, maintaining rich digital collections and running our weekly Book Club, we make it easy for every student to find something they love. Students are also invited to take part in the Premier’s Reading Challenge each year.
Beyond reading and research, our libraries are vibrant hubs for extracurricular life. During recess and lunch, students can enjoy puzzles, LEGO, chess and mindful colouring, while regular events — including guest speakers, competitions and themed dress-up days — keep things exciting throughout the year. Senior students at Kinnear Library also benefit from access to professional-grade AV and media equipment to support their VCE creative work.
