The Enrolment Process
Students who live within the designated neighbourhood zone of Footscray High School are guaranteed an enrolment place. A student’s permanent residence determines both their eligibility for enrolment at Footscray High School and which of our campuses they will attend — the closest Year 7–9 campus and Year 10–12 campus. The Find my School website shows which school zone a student’s permanent residence is located within.
Families may be asked to provide supporting documentation to help the school verify a child’s permanent residence. Refer to the hyperlinked document, Residential address check (PDF).
Once zoned students have been offered places, the school applies the Victorian Department of Education’s Enrolment Placement Policy and will offer any further available places strictly in accordance with this policy and Footscray High School’s Enrolment Management Plan.

Our school follows the Department of Education’s Enrolment Policy for the enrolment, placement, and transfer of students.
Students who live within the school zone are guaranteed a place at our school. To find out whether you live in zone, visit findmyschool.vic.gov.au.
All other applications will be considered subject to available space, and prioritised according to:
- Students with a sibling at the same permanent address who are attending the school at the same time
- All other students in order of closeness of their home to the school.

Process for Prospective Year 7 Students
State Government Primary Schools
All Victorian government primary schools follow the statewide Year 6 to 7 placement timeline. The timeline advises families when and how to enrol their child at a Victorian government secondary school. Applications for Year 7 open at the start of Term 2.
Victorian government primary schools manage the Year 7 placement process for their Year 6 students in accordance with the timeline. At the start of Term 2, primary schools will distribute information packs to parents and carers.

Non Government Schools
All parents in Primary Schools will be issued with a Secondary School Transition Pack, including a Transition Form and a list of key dates. Parents must return their completed Transition Forms to their preferred high school. Students who reside in the Footscray High School designated neighbourhood zone have the right to enrol at Footscray High School, please contact your primary school who will be able to assist you with the transition process. Alternatively, please email 7842-transition@schools.vic.edu.au, a member of our transition team will be able to assist you.
Placement Policy
The Department of Education provides guidance through the School Placement Policy to ensure that students have access to their Designated Neighbourhood School and the freedom to choose other schools, subject to facility limitations.
All State Government Schools will be following the provisions of the Placement Policy and Footscray High School will be no exception.
The Footscray High School Designated Neighbourhood Zones for Year 7 entry to the Barkly and Pilgrim campuses are available on findmyschool.vic.gov.au. The Findmyschool.vic.gov.au website hosts the most up-to-date information about Victorian school zones and should be used as the reference point by all families.
Students residing in the Barkly and Pilgrim zones are guaranteed places at those campuses. The residence is determined on the basis of your permanent residential address.
A student’s permanent place of address not only determines eligibility for enrolment at Footscray High School but also at the closest Year 7-9 campus.
Families will be requested to provide hard copies of their last two utility bills to verify their residential address upon enrolment. Please note that a current Rates Notice for a property is notification of ownership but not of residence. Where there are insufficient places at a school for all students who seek entry, students are enrolled according to the Placement Policy’s priority order of placement, for more information on this policy please see the FHS Enrolment Management Plan.
