Processes and Timelines
Years 7 – 10
Assessment in Years 7–10 at Footscray High School is designed to monitor student progress and provide feedback to support learning. Students are assessed through a variety of methods, including tests, projects, presentations, and practical activities. Alongside these school-based assessments, students also participate in external assessments including PAT (Progressive Achievement Tests) and NAPLAN, which provide valuable standardised data on each student’s literacy and numeracy development. Together, school-based and external assessment data give our teachers a rich and detailed picture of every student’s strengths and areas for growth, allowing us to tailor our support and ensure each student is challenged and encouraged to reach their potential.
Reporting is done through Progress Reports and formal semester reports. Progress Reports are completed at specific times during the term, providing ongoing feedback on student engagement, effort, and behaviour. Formal reports are issued at the end of each semester, summarising academic achievements and areas for improvement.
Years 11 and 12
For senior students, assessment includes School-Assessed Coursework (SACs) and School-Assessed Tasks (SATs), which contribute to their final VCE scores. These school-based assessments work alongside external VCE examinations to provide a comprehensive measure of student achievement. The combination of ongoing coursework assessment and formal external exams ensures students are well prepared and supported at every stage of their VCE journey, with teachers using this data to guide individual students towards their post-secondary goals.
Reporting timelines include regular feedback through Progress Reports and detailed semester reports. Additionally, students receive guidance on their progress towards meeting graduation requirements and achieving their post-secondary aspirations.
