Welcome to Term 2 from the Principal.
I would like to welcome our students and their families back to Footscray High School for the beginning of Term 2. I trust that families have had an enjoyable holiday.
I am proud of our students’ achievements during Term 1 and the way in which they have demonstrated our school pillars. Our students have demonstrated Unity through their collaboration with each other and their teachers, shown Respect for each other and the environment, demonstrated Creativity by being open minded to many of the new challenges they have experienced this year and Endeavour in the completion of learning tasks to the best of their abilities.
We do have much to celebrate at Footscray.
Your child will be invited to complete the survey online during class time using a secure online survey tool. Whilst students can choose if they want to take part, we value our young people having a say and would encourage all students to fully participate.
The survey data will help Footscray High School understand how to continue to improve our school and our students’ learning experiences. The survey will be conducted on 20th May. More details will be communicated to families next week.

On Thursday evening, the VCE Theatre Studies cohort premiered their student-led production of Lord of the Flies. This performance marked the culmination of months of hard work and creativity, beginning in term one, when students first took on the challenge of reimagining this enduring text. Throughout the rehearsal and development process, the cohort assumed full responsibility for all aspects of the production process, stepping into the roles of actors, directors, designers. They explored complex themes, made bold creative choices, and collaborated closely to shape a version of the play that speaks to a 2025 audience.
The result is a dynamic and thought-provoking retelling that reflects the creativity, commitment, and growing artistic voices of the entire ensemble.
I am incredibly proud of this dedicated and passionate group of students. It has been a genuine privilege to witness their growth, not only as theatre-makers, but as resilient and collaborative young artists.

A huge congratulations to 3 of our students who competed at the State Swimming Finals. Their effort on the day was incredible as they competed against the best swimmers across Victoria. They represented our school wonderfully and embodied the FHS pillars all day. We couldn’t be more proud!
On Monday 28th April VCE Environmental Science students visited Ecolinc and Mt Rothwell. It was a great day and evening watching students participate in the different programs.
The Yr 11 program involved:
Yr 12 students had the opportunity to learn about:
50 Year 9 students and 5 Staff spent week 1 of Term 2 camping, hiking, zip lining, kayaking and mountain biking around Lake Dewar. Students showed their unity working together, also displaying their strength, determination and good humour as they navigated the different camping and adventure challenges. Our students offered their quick takes on the camp:
EJ said the hike was pretty hard but everyone encouraged each other.
Addicus said swimming in clothes after kayaking was fun but not advised.
Eila said it was really fun meeting new people, doing a natural mud mask and learning camp cooking.
We are pleased to launch our high scoring past-student VCE tutoring program this Tuesday, May 6, from 3.30-4.30pm in the VCE Centre with free donuts for everyone who works with a tutor. Our tutors Ava Harpur (2024 Dux), Lara Likar and Linh Ta will come every Tuesday afternoon to provide specialist support in English and EAL, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Maths Methods and Specialist, English Language, History, Politics, Literature and Japanese. They can also give great tips on VCE study, SACs, and essay writing in general.
This initiative was started last year in response to student feedback, and was very successful. All students doing a VCE subject are encouraged to attend as many times as they want. Come with a study group or by yourself – there is no need to book in advance. Make the most of this great opportunity! See below a bio of one of our tutors. More information to follow on the FHS socials.
Hi everyone! I’m Linh and I’m excited to be your tutor! I’m 18 years old and studied at FHS from Year 7 to Year 12. I consistently achieved high marks in many of my classes and ended up with an ATAR of 84.75.
As someone who initially struggled in year 12, I understand how tough and stressful this last year of high school can be. However, with time management and consistency, achieving a desirable score is possible. Whether you need help with EAL, Psychology, Japanese, Accounting, time management, study or revision techniques, I’m here to help in every way I can.
As someone who comes from a Vietnamese-speaking background, I’m happy to support Vietnamese-speaking students, as well as any international students to navigate their ways in the Australian education system! With my academic background and personal experience, I hope to make your academic journey less stressful and enjoyable. I’m looking forward to seeing you all!
An inspiring day recently at the NGV with the Art Making & Exhibiting students!
They explored Victoria’s top student artworks, celebrated our very own Eddy’s incredible piece in the Top Arts, and soaked up endless creativity.
Our students were greatly inspired by all the talent on display!
