Student Leadership

Student Leadership

FHS encourages students to take on roles that demonstrate leadership and responsibility within the school and the wider community.

The school promotes leadership in many areas such as community service, sport, music, drama, peer support and environmental sustainability.

The following programs within the college provide opportunities for students to develop their leadership skills:

  • Student Representative Council
  • STRIDE Peer Support Program (Years 7 & 10)
  • Duke of Edinburgh Awards Program
  • High Resolve Global Citizenship Program (Years 8 and 10)
  • World Challenge Program (Years 9 – 11)
  • School for Student Leadership Program (Year 9)
  • Sports Coaching Program (Years 9 – 10)

Community Mindedness

As well as our core focus on students developing their individual potential, we promote the values of respect and responsibility for others, care and compassion. A number of our programs explicitly promote these values and aim to develop each student’s sense of social responsibility, locally and globally.

These programs include:

  • Community Action Project Year 9 – students are formally trained as volunteers and complete a community placement
  • World Challenge Program – students are trained in leadership, develop an understanding of global citizenship and complete voluntary service in a developing country such as Cambodia or Laos
  • Sport and fitness coaching in local primary schools
  • Duke of Edinburgh Awards program – volunteering is a major component of achieving this award
