Congratulations to our incredible students and dedicated staff behind this year’s school production of Mamma Mia! From the first rehearsal to the final performance, the talent, hard work, and teamwork on display were truly exceptional.
The cast brought energy, emotion, and humour to the stage, capturing the spirit of ABBA’s beloved musical with outstanding performances that left audiences singing and dancing along. Every role—onstage and behind the scenes—was brought to life with passion and professionalism.
We’d also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the teachers, directors, choreographers, musicians, and backstage crew who guided and supported the production every step of the way. Your leadership and dedication helped our students shine brightly and created a memorable experience for the entire school community. Special acknowledgement goes to:
Congratulations once again to everyone involved—we are so proud of all involved.
The results from the school’s recent NAPLAN assessment of Year 7 and Year 9 in Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation, and Numeracy indicate that our students are excelling when compared to both State and similar schools.
Our results demonstrate that there is significant growth in our Year 9 students’ Literacy and Numeracy proficiency levels when compared to their Year 7 results in 2023.
These results are a testament to the hard work of our students, the quality of our staff and to the support you as parents provide at home.
Overall, this wonderful outcome reflects the continued improvement of our school and our ability to achieve outstanding outcomes for our students.
WE WANT OUR PARENTS / CAREGIVERS / GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

The FHS Girls team put on an outstanding performance, securing victory and earning their place in the upcoming Regional Finals in term 4 on Tuesday, October 28th. Well done to Greta, Holly, Tilly, Hani, Jemima and Alexys.
Both boys’ teams showed great skill, determination and sportsmanship in their matches. While they narrowly missed out on qualifying for the finals, their efforts and teamwork were truly commendable.

Our Year 10 boys and girls teams recently took part in a competitive futsal tournament, putting in strong performances and representing the school with pride.
Boys Team
The boys played two intense matches, finishing with one draw and one narrow loss. Despite not getting the results they hoped for, the team showed great determination and teamwork. Standout performances came from Justin, Ateeq, and Sam, who impressed with their skill, composure under pressure, and consistent effort throughout both games.
Girls Team
The girls’ team had a fantastic run, fighting through a series of close matches to earn their place in the final. Although they were defeated 3-0 in the final, their performance throughout the tournament was outstanding. Muskan, Klara, and May stood out with their energy, control, and leadership on the court, playing key roles in the team’s journey to the final.
Well done to all players involved for their hard work, teamwork, and sportsmanship!
A short term 3, any successful teams progressing to regionals will take place in term 4.
Our year 11 & 12 Art Making and Exhibiting (AME) students recently visited the newly restored Footscray Town Hall to explore the exhibition ‘Summer Road to Saltwater’. This exhibition celebrates the opening of the Civic Precinct and showcases the City of Maribyrnong’s Art and Heritage Collection, tracing the municipality’s evolution from the 19th century to today.
The visit was particularly valuable for our students, as the exhibition’s curator, Lili, collaborated with our AME teacher to design a tailored tour and facilitated program. This experience directly aligns with the study design, offering students a deeper understanding of exhibition curation, design, and conservation. It also provided firsthand insights into a curator’s role—essential knowledge as students prepare for their VCAA exams.
We’ll be celebrating Book Week all week, with the highlight being Dress Up Day on Tuesday 19th. We’ve heard some staff at Kinnear have something special planned this year…. As well as our annual costume parades, there will be other events and competitions, including trivia, puzzles, and other book inspired activities. Keep an eye on Compass or visit your library for details.
Despite being a dark and stormy night, it was really great to see so many families attend our Parent Information Evening this past Tuesday. Emma Pollock guided us all through the resources available to students via the library website that families might not have been aware of, including audiobooks, eBooks and Clickview. She also demonstrated the ways in which our libraries support our students with research and reading, especially in helping to find a book they’ll love. The event finished with lots of lively conversation over (more than) a few slices of pizza!
Many thanks to Emma, Hung and the Library team for organising an engaging evening. We plan to host a similar event in Term 1 next year, so please keep reading the newsletter to find out details. In the meantime, if anyone has any questions or feedback about our library services, you can email us on fhslibrary@footscray.vic.edu.au.
From the FHS Library team.
A shout out to our epic VCE Media students who had their Refine + Resolve Evening for Unit 4.
The aim of the night is to collect feedback from test audiences in order to make changes, refine and resolve their media products prior to submission of their product and folio.
Shout out to Paul for helping set up audio, a HUGE thanks to Robin who stayed and volunteered to take care of tech with one of my year 12s, the LCL team who held the fort while I ran around organising things, as well as our kiddos who made the campus spotless and tidy for the guests.
