On Friday 24 October, we celebrated our annual Graduation Dinner with 800 attendees at The Pavillion, Melbourne Showgrounds in Flemington.
This was a wonderful family event. It was so gratifying to be able to come together as a school community. The ceremony was also a momentous occasion, marking the graduation of the first Year 7 cohort to complete Year 12 at Footscray High School.
Our Year 12 students and their families joined with staff to celebrate the completion of their formal schooling. We presented each student with their graduation certificate and announced the School’s Valedictorians, Billy Corbett and Lucinda Anders, who both gave outstanding speeches to their fellow Year 12 students.
Thank you to the Senior School Team: Campus Principal – Vicki Tentzoglidis, Assistant Principal – Elizabeth Simpson, Head of Engagement and Programs – Malcolm Fretz, Year 12 Learning Community Leaders – Leni Vamvesos and Sunny Railton for their outstanding leadership of Senior School.

Principal
On Tuesday, 29th October, our Year 12 Students sat their English exam, kicking off the exam period for most. They woke up the next day to find themselves on the front page of the age and an article on pages 8-9!
Big congratulations to all of our Year 12 students who have worked hard and prepared all year for their exams. Also, to our senior English teachers, for all of their hard work in readying our students for their English exams.
Being featured in The Age and on the news was an exciting and well deserved moment of recognition for our students and Footscray High School.

The girls played with amazing spirit and energy today. While there were no wins, there were plenty of smiles, teamwork, and fun all around. Charlotte and Isabell showed incredible determination, putting their bodies on the line right to the end through exhaustion and even a rolled ankle.A special mention to Isabell for a hard-fought and inspiring effort as captain.
The team of 8 year 8’s played off in regional finals, finding it tough early against Sunbury and Western Heights but finishing on a high against St Albans with a win!Big shout out to Sam who led the side all day with his scoring, drive and tenacity on the court. Thanks to our year 9 coaches Bodee and Lincoln and to Seni who photographed some ripping shots.
The Year 7 Girls Basketball made it to the Regionals and went off to Altona on the 28th of October to represent Footscray High School! The girls were up against the best teams and their sportsmanship, skills and determination was amazing on the court.
They played their absolute best in all games. We didn’t win a game but the scores were very close and everyone had a fun day. Congratulations girls and watch out next year when we are all in Year 8.
The Intermediate Girls represented Footscray High School at the Regional Table Tennis Finals held at Geelong Table Tennis Centre. They showed excellent teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the competition. The team of Tilly, Sylvie, Jemima, and Greta won two matches and lost one, finishing an impressive third overall. Congratulations to the girls on a fantastic effort!
On Thursday, 23 October, there was a pride panel held in the quad that answered students’ questions about things like sexuality, gender, and homophobia. We had activities like chalk drawing, badge, sticker and bracelet making, as well as a fruit platter and rainbow lollies.
It created a safe space for all students and helped educate all of FHS about the LGBTQIA+ community and how young queer people are affected by their environment and peers.
We had a lot of fun! Thanks to the Maribrynong council, SAGA, Mick and Tobie for making it all possible!

Our Year 8 PE students decided to mix it up recently and experience movements and activities they otherwise wouldn’t in a standard PE session. Students were lead through a variety of circus skills by the instructors from the Footscray Women’s Circus, including aerial apparatuses such as trapeze and silks.
To coincide with Mental Health Month, the Department of Education has funded Orygen to develop ScrollSafe — a new initiative supporting positive mental health in the digital age.
ScrollSafe provides new resources to help teachers, students, families, and mental health professionals understand the impact of social media on mental health. It also offers evidence-based tips to support healthy digital habits and balanced online use.
This initiative is an excellent opportunity for our school community to reflect on our online behaviours and learn strategies for promoting digital wellbeing.
We encourage you to tap into the linked ScrollSafe resources to explore practical ways to support healthier, more mindful social media use.
