Footscray High School Library

Our Library is central to the daily operation of the school and offers vibrant, welcoming and engaging environments for students and staff to collaborate, read and study.

The Library’s vision is to nurture an ongoing love of reading in our community, to support the teaching and learning of the school curriculum, to celebrate diversity and creativity and to promote social justice. We accomplish this by providing a vast range of digital and print resources, hosting events and activities and offering professional support to help meet our community’s teaching, learning and recreational needs. Our staff are also dedicated to cultivating a sense of curiosity in students and encouraging them to be critical and creative thinkers.

They host a variety of digital resources to support teaching, learning and recreational reading, as well as study and research tips and referencing advice. Students can search our library catalogue online to find books in any of our campuses, connect to reference databases, borrow eBooks and audiobooks, and more!

Online Resources and Databases

We subscribe to a range of online resources and databases such as Bloom’s Literature, WorldBook Online Encyclopedia and Informit Explore, plus huge collections of eBooks and Audiobooks.

Fiction Books

All of our libraries have an extensive print and digital collection comprising classic and contemporary novels, quick reads, picture books and graphic novels suitable for a range of reading levels and interests. The loan period is one fortnight but books can be re-borrowed if necessary. Our fiction collection is arranged according to genre, which allows for intuitive browsing and helps our students find the books they love quickly and easily.

Non-fiction Books

We offer a comprehensive selection of non-fiction books and eBooks to support our curriculum and meet the interests of our students. These include encyclopedia, dictionaries, textbooks, biographies and special interest books on a wide range of topics.

Film and Video

We subscribe to an educational digital video streaming service called ClickView Online to support the curriculum. This allows teachers and students 24/7 access to educational content that has been custom made for schools and mapped to the Australian Curriculum as well as selected programs which have appeared on TV. We also have an extensive collection of TV programs, movies, documentaries and animations in DVD format.

Multimedia

Our library supplies the school with a wide variety of multimedia technology and professional support. We stock digital video and still cameras, tripods, microphones and much more…

Clubs and Activities

Our libraries host some great extracurricular activities such as Debating and Public Speaking, and of course our Book Club. We also facilitate events, public speakers and excursions to support the learning and interests of our students.

We subscribe to a fully searchable, online replica of The Age newspaper for student and staff access. Our website contains links to many news outlets from around the world.
