Footscray High School, as part of the Footscray Learning Precinct, is exploring the development of an authentic and viable pathway for students studying Italian in primary school. As part of this process, we will be seeking feedback from students, parents, staff and the community.

Year 11 students along with more than 13,0000 other secondary school students attended the Victorian Careers Show at the Melbourne Showgrounds on Friday 16th May. Students spoke to stall holders and gathered:
A highlight of the day was Archer L achieving the fastest reaction time of all Careers show attendees in the RMIT Challenge.
The organisers of the event commented on how polite and enthusiastic our students were. Thank you to all staff and students who attended.
Friday, 23rd of May, FHS had a crew of 50 strong to take to the Maribyrnong River/Footscray Park 3k and 5k race circuit. Top 12 in each age group progressing through to regionals, which gave a high percentage of our runners the green light to head to Regionals on Thursday, June 19. Stay tuned for more info on that.
Tuesday, 27th May, was a wet, windy and cold day out for our soccer and AFL teams. FHS junior footy team won 2 of 3 matches, progressing through to regionals on Wednesday, June 25.
Thanks to Liam and Blake for coaching, who will have a task on their hands at regionals. Well done, junior boys!
To our Netball and Badminton teams, unsuccessful in making the finals, but plenty of positive signs and a great day to be indoors playing sport. Here’s a snippet from two of our Year 10 students, Dani and Nellie, who provided some wonderful coaching on the day:
The girls played extremely well, all banding together with school spirit against their opponents from various competitive schools. Unfortunately, Footscray wasn’t able to bring home a win, but we managed two draws across both the A and B teams. Everyone worked so well together, seeing as they hadn’t managed a training, and most people playing weren’t players outside of school. It was nice to see the camaraderie develop over the day. We look forward to helping coach the Year 7 girls’ netball team soon! Go Footscray!
Minasan Konnichi wa! Ciao a tutti!
Year 7 students have been battling for a place on the leaderboard in language by sustaining home practice on the Duolingo app since term one. Amelia, Noah, Manusri and Daria have all received certificates for their impressive language learning streak. In addition, Manusri and Phoebe also received outstanding gold and credit awards (respectively) for their participation in the Education Perfect International Language Championships. Well done to all of the other students who participated across FHS.
In Year 8 Japanese classes, students across the junior campuses have donned hats and props to engage in interactive role-plays to strengthen speaking skills. A great show of team-work and the FHS pillar of ‘unity’ was emphasised in this buzzing, spoken unit of work. Later in the term, students will walk to a local restaurant as a group to sample Japanese maki-zushi.
Year 9’s are writing letters to Japanese pen-pals from Reitaku Mizunami High School. The school is hosting 16 visiting students and teachers from this school in late July. This will be a great opportunity for students to practise their Japanese and hone their intercultural skills. Enrichment experiences are currently being planned for the Japanese student visit and will take place in term three.
Sayonara! Arrivederci!
Year 10 Studio Arts students explored photograms camera-less images made by placing objects on light-sensitive paper—and darkroom printing. They learned to handle chemicals, use an enlarger, and develop prints while experimenting with composition and exposure. This hands-on unit blended technical skills with creativity.
On Wednesday, 28th May, the Year 11 EAL students participated in an afternoon tea celebration. The students have been writing about celebrations and foods important to their culture. Students brought in their dishes and shared why they are important and what they represent. It was a lovely afternoon to celebrate our diverse cultures at FHS.
Homework Club has started every Wednesday at Lunchtime at Pilgrim with Nancy. All students are invited to bring their lunch and catch up on homework in a nice, calming atmosphere.
