We offer an enriching, team-oriented program that develops confidence, fitness, and meaningful friendships for students with an interest in rowing. Students have the opportunity to participate in two different programs. An information session is held during term 1 each year, where we outline the details of both programs. It’s important to note that enrolment is open exclusively for students in year 7 and 8, but once enrolled, students can continue to participate in the program until year 12, ensuring a long-lasting rowing experience.
Over 5 sessions, students learn the basics of technique, have fun with their friends and hopefully gain an interest in an activity they haven’t tried before.
Students, regardless of Rowing experience, skill level or fitness level can trial rowing in term 3. Open to students in year 7 & 8 (Year 7’s can be coxswains only).
The coaching staff are all accredited rowing coaches with many years’ experience coaching at various levels of the sport. The coaching ratio is 1 coach per boat to prioritise and maximise student skill over the 5 sessions.
Time and date TBC the term prior to start.
$160 per student
In term 4, all selected rowers are put into squads that are appropriate for their skill level and fitness. All participating students are expected to attend all scheduled sessions (Injury and illness aside) as the absence of a crew member means that the remainder of the crew cannot train.
Rowers are expected to attend 3 training sessions per week and all nominated regattas. Training is currently Monday & Wednesday 3.45pm-5.30pm and Thursday 6-8am. The summer competition season starts in term 4 and continues to term 1 the following year.
Regattas are generally held on Saturdays with some on Sundays. They can be either day long events (~6am-6pm) or half day events. Regattas are held in a number of locations including: The Barwon River – Geelong, Lake Nagambie – Nagambie, Lake Wendouree – Ballarat, The Yarra River – Melbourne, The National Water Sports Centre -Carrum.
Crews will compete in regattas throughout the season that are suitable for their skill level culminating in an end of season regatta.
Regattas will be confirmed at the beginning of term 4 so families can plan their time.
Rowers are expected to get themselves to and from all training sessions and regattas.
As a guide, the fees are $2500 for Rowers and $400 for coxswains. There are opportunities for scholarships and subsidies.
Fees cover all coaching at training, regattas and regatta entry fees, Rowing Victoria affiliation fees, boat trailer transport costs to regattas, equipment such as boats & oars and rowing ergometers and boat shed usage including boat racking.
